March 2009 - Three Points of View

Three Points of View is an exciting exhibition featuring the work of Alan Joyce, David Evans and David Porter. This three man show brings to the gallery three distinct artistic styles that both contrast and complement each other.

Alan Joyce paints in a variety of media, primarily oils and oil pastels. His subject matter includes scenes from Crosby beach, sometimes including the Anthony Gormley figures looking out to sea: and the docklands, most dramatically seen within a sunset. He is also inspired by Manchester and portrays the city with a masterly touch that is reminiscent of Adolphe Valette.

David Evans works mainly in watercolours. His townscapes depict dramatic skies hovering over clusters of rooftops. An extraordinary mix of both simplicity and sophistication, his imagination adds an extra dimension to his work. There will also be examples of his 3D work featuring wooden sculptures.

David Porter uses oil paints to portray the English countryside in a semi-abstract way. His sensitive use of pastel colours creates soft and serene landscapes with a dreamlike quality. By applying blocks of colour in such a way as to 'suggest' parts of the landscape he stimulates the onlookers' imagination allowing each to interpret the landscape in a slightly different way.

The exhibition ran from 6th March until Saturday, 28th March 2009.
