While his brushstrokes are reminiscent of Impressionist works, Derek prefers to paint from his studio using sketches, notes and photographs that stimulate his visual memory as to, “let the painting dictate its own course, making fewer references to the source material as the picture progresses”.
His work has appeared regularly in the Stockport Open Exhibition, the Manchester Academy of Fine Art and the Laing Landscape exhibition at the Mall Galleries of London.
